Thai Massage is a system of massage and assisted stretching, developed in Thailand and influenced by the traditional medicine systems of India, China, and Southeast Asia.

Throughout the massage, I lead my clients through a series of assisted yoga postures in a skilled and fluid way, with flowing transitions from one posture to the next. Thai massage feels very much to me like a rhythmic dance and, although there is a standard procedure and rhythm to this type of massage, it is my practice to make adjustments to the postures so as to fit the needs of each individual client.

The technique focuses mainly on stretching and massaging along the 10 Sen or energy lines of the body – opening blockages to alleviate disease and promote health and well-being. The sessions are performed on a mat, typically last 1 to 1-1/2 hours or more, and include rhythmic pressing, thumbing, palming, and stretching of the entire body.

Enhancing the energy flow may help problems such as lower back, joint, hip and shoulder pain. It can also generate a deep state of relaxation, as well as promote centeredness and well being for both the client and the practitioner. Often clients will report feeling very relaxed and peaceful, flexible, energized, and rejuvenated after the massage.

The true practice of the art of healing in traditional nuad boran (Thai massage) is the compassionate intent of the healer. This compassionate state of being is termed “metta”, which usually translates as “loving kindness”.
